2011: Still going strong

Its been awhile since I've set foot on the rugby pitch and I had been away for a reason. Leaving the responsibility of this blog to someone else was not the best of idea at the time but I have my reasons for the abrupt departure.

The team is looking good at the moment, fresh faces, a few veterans and outside players sharing their experiences. Though I daresay, there's still a lot more work needed. After today's practice, I believe the overall fitness level has dropped in majority and a few key players missing. Coach Shafiq is still our head coach and as enthusiastic as ever. But that fighting spirit of the Sharks ever prevailing.

The next friendly match will be scheduled next-coming Saturday. Will update more on the next post. =)

However, just 12 players of UBD will be selected, accompanied by 2 supervisors.

Its been awhile since the team got together for a match.
Glad to say though, we finally have a full-squad.
A few new faces, and for some a debut match.
The last time we went against these guys, we were outnumbered.
Gmie, Shark's temporary coach + waterboy.
Alas, proper sized forwards for the starting line-up.
The breakaway via our openside flanker Ayampie Habana.
The offence line ready for the chase.
Newcomer Sa'ar as blindside winger. First taste of contact rugby, LOL.
Newcomer Doze, openside winger. Managed to score 2 tries & remained untouched.

The team huddle after a final score of 4 tries to 2.
Big man Ali J with his 2 scored tries. Sadly, will be leaving for UK soon. =(
Mr Taladi as Ref & Mr Syafik who might just take the Sharks under his wing?
I think its time to work on getting more girls for a full-squad 0;p

Welcome to JIS Rugby Field.
Had only manage to arrive at the second half as I had class till 6. But heck, it was intense as I got onfield.
The Sharks amongst the crowd.
Big 8 of the Knights injured from a massive collision.
Awesomely enough it takes 4 men to bring him down.
The 2nd scored try which secured the victory.
Another casualty. Injuries are much unavoidable onfield.

Roadtrip: Sharks in Panaga~

A last minute decision to join kaka Miza to the oil town of Brunei.
Its been quite awhile since I've set foot on KB beach, still as beautiful =)
This is what usually happens if I come along, vaining sessions.. >.< Anyways, back to topic. Panaga rugby field is situated just beside the beach. Cool soothing breeze and fresh air makes it the perfect playing ground ^.^ Not exactly playing with the Pythons but more of an open touch session with the public.
After the game. I managed to score once and Miza scored twice 0.o'

Went around KB town right after to look for food. Notice how Miza is captivated?!
Went sight-seeing too!! Someone was very bangang LOL
Went back home right after. Sweaty, tired and sore.

Wednesday: Long Afternoon~

"Hi all Pengerusi/AJK club2. 12/8/09 ada ArtFest pukul 1.30pm @ Taman Selera UBD. VC will be der. Please Come. TQ" - PMUBD
Well, some of the Sharks came but it was basically an Art Exhibition so yea. We ended up vaining a lot with Lucy (my cam) and modelling for the photography club. Art's beautiful, but not when your testosterons raging for rugbeh~
Afterwards. An impromptu meeting of a pre-meeting for next week, LOL. Basically, decision and updating of each other of ideas and next plan of action. For now, the Sharks are planning for ECA day, which means recruting new members and hopefully we will be able to fill out as a full team for both ladies and men.
The current ladies team (with a few vain guys). Some senior members have returned, and a few new faces have gladly turned up (Pinky & Fifa) but some of the regular ladies are not in the shot. Next week we be expecting Anis, Fayeeza, Penny, Nishara, Nad and Ash =p
The current Men's team (besides Ishamina) though, the pic is still incomplete.
A second attempt to get all the guys in ended unsuccessful. Though, notice the new faces and the few who have returned =D the pic though is still incomplete but we have a TEAM!!
My very vain friend's request for his pic to be blogged~ & also a future Sharks "star" winger =p
Session ended with "minum" at Daniel's. Rugi yang inda datang, si Aryf lanja minum! xD

JIS Rugby Field: Pythons Vs Knights

Manage to drop by JIS rugby field to watch one of the most awaited match.
A clash of the rugby titans of Brunei.
Despite the moderate haze the game played on with acceptable weather.
With both teams going all out, it was quite intense.
As expected from rugby, the game was violent and had its fair shares of warnings
The crowd.
The Score ended at Knights 10 - 7 Pythons. But due to a technicality the Python won by points.
Our very own Sharks and friends spectated too. Credits to Quan for this shot.

UBD Sharks: A New Semester 2009/2010

Under a new acting management, the Sharks have evidently recovered from the previous crisis. Recovery is slow, though efficiently making progress. Familiar faces have returned, along with newer ones too =)
Also, for the time being the Sharks will be under the coaching of Gmie & Khai (candid). For now, we play mostly touch as the number of girls still does not fulfill the requirement of a team. Worth to mention too, is Naqiu's return from his broken ankle recovery (far end of pic)
Never have I seen this many balls on the Sharks field, with variety of colours too! The "Melbourne" ball is a Kooga Rugby Training ball, which will officially be the Team's ball as soon as payment is made ($20?) =p
Not exactly everyone shown in the pic but even with this number, its evident we have enough players. We're still a fresh team though with just one victory under our belts, but heck this 2009/2010 season is looking up. The Sharks are here to stay!

I would like to apologize for the lack of updates for this blog.(jgn marah) . I know I've been missing the Rugby training and I couldn't attend UBD Sharks Rugby matches including the UBD Sharks match in KB last time(because I had 4 events to attend to on that day).I was informed that some of the UBD Sharks players had been merged with ABDB for the BRFU Senior League yesterday. UBD Sharks double match in Labuan

UBD Sharks Rugby Football Club was having their double match in Labuan yesterday,Sunday 22nd February 2009. The first match was between UBD Sharks and the under 18 Labuan national team. The score was 12 points (U18 Labuan national team)-0 (UBD Sharks)and after the exhausting match, the UBD Sharks was having another match with the under 20 Labuan national team( combine with the UMS team) and the Labuan national team scored the 7 points and UBD Sharks gained no points. Both the Labuan national teams defeated the Sharks however, UBD Sharks is getting stronger,better and I can sense some improvements.Good try,guys!

For those players who were injured during the match,do take some rest and get well soon and enjoy national day celebration =D

Today's training?,I must say it's much more merrier and I saw lovely smiles on everybody's faces during the training, I saw new faces and from what I observed,everybody were having fun,both the guys team and the girls team are much more stronger and I can see that they are very keen ;) and

there will be a friendly match between UBD Sharks and JIS for both the guys and the girls team this friday,13th February 2009, at the UBD Rugby field. Girls match will starts around 2.30pm and everyone is invited to watch!! =D

UBD Sharks Rugby FC Girls Team Win

The UBD Sharks Rugby Football Club girls team with the ISB girls team.

Bandar Seri Begawan - UBD Sharks Rugby Football Club Girls Team triumphed in a replay
of a two-legged touch rugby match against ISB girls at the International School
Brunei in Berakas yesterday.

UBD led by their inspirational captain Noraimah beat ISB 3-2 with the winning coming
from Ishamina Athirah.The UBD team is under the tutelage of Coach Ben Peacock and
trained twice a week as they are in the midst of preparing for the Brunei Senior League
starting in March.

According to Mohammad Bazilin Wafiy, the vice-president of UBD Sharks Rugby Football Club,the club was set up after great pains to give an opportunity to undergraduates to play rugby.

The team currently has over 30 members.

Since the UBD Sharks were formed in August last

year the team has been featured in many popular local blogs such as ranoadidas.com

It's good to see new faces that turned up during the rugby training today.Compare to the previous training,only few turned up.The more the better,the more the merrier. Even tough I don't play rugby but I still find this game as attractive,challenging,rough,tough,fun (looks fun)and today I can see the sharks has the big potential to be a great rugby club team.GO SHARKS!!!

This week,there will be a friendly match between UBD Sharks and Knights on Friday 30th January 2009 @ 3pm and for the UBD Sharks girls there will be a friendly match with the ISB girls on Saturday,31st January 2009.

Sharks' loss could be valuable lesson

BRUISED but not broken, the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Sharks Rugby Club can look back on their first ever friendly match yesterday with their heads held high.

Formed in August last year, the Sharks' outing at the UBD Sports Complex against the Bandar Blacks' Under-23 team marked their first ever match against any local club, and despite losing 25-0, they were able to take some positives from it.

"They put a few national players in for the second half but we were still able to stop them," said Sharks' captain Lim Chee Chang after the match.

"Our team are filled with new players ... I think they (Bandar Blacks) did not expect us to play this well.

"From this match we can see that we need to improve on our passing and stamina, and with our coach's (Ben Peacocke) help, I am sure one day we can reach the Bandar Blacks' level," added Lim.

Forced to play the whole match with no substitutes, the Sharks' did a commendable job of keeping their more experienced opponents at bay especially in the second half.

Though they had the advantage of playing at their training ground, the muddy conditions gave neither the Sharks nor the Blacks the upper hand.

Passing the ball well and fluidly linking up their forwards and backs on the attack, the Blacks were on the offensive from the first minute.

Scoring a try after 10 minutes by creating and exploiting space on the left flank, the Blacks soon took control of the match by dominating possession and tackling better.

Going on to score another try a few minutes before the break, the Blacks had a great start to the second half by scoring a try within the first few seconds.

Firmly in control of the match at this point, the Blacks spent most of the period in enemy half and would go on to score two more tries though they failed to convert all five of them.

Though the Sharks did have their moments, their ball-handling errors and failure to create space on the attack saw them leave the field without a point to their name.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, a friendly touch-rugby match between the UBD Sharks' women's team and the International School Brunei saw the latter emerge victorious 5-0.The Brunei Times

There are few upcomming activities that going to happen next sem for UBD sharks:

Confirmation of player for the guy contact rugby for the league (under 32 or the senior still to be decided by the AJK)
Meeting during the first week of next sem (will be inform later)
Training will start from the second weeks. Girl will be just normal touch training and guy with ball will be having some tackling training
Friendly match between the jounior school team like PTEB or Awang semaun somewhere during the february 2009
Girl intergroup tournament some where around march or april.

Thank for viewing this blog and i really want to say sorry to the viewer of this blos because not much post of information is posted lately. Yes finally we have this video uploaded. This is the first try for out team and the first tournament that the ubd sharks had enter. The tournament was organised by the UBD sharks on the 9th november 2008 at muara beach. Although the ubd sharks did not win the tournament, it is a good achievement that the players are able to score. It is quite an good achievement because most of the player that are playing in the tournament did not play in a rugby match before and they have to learn from scratch for the last 3 weeks. It turn out to be one of our most proud achievemnet. The other team that had join the tournament are those had play for severeal years and had great expereience.

Hello everybody, This blog is for everybody to read and visit, especially for the UBD Sharks members. This blog is about our club, progress and members after it's establishment.

A quick introduction here:

We are UBD SHARKS RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB. Registered under Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and under Brunei Rugby Football Union (BRFU). Establish early this 2008, we did tried to establish it early 2007 but we did not have enough players and members to organize it. This year we managed to recruit more than 50 peoples - around 20 guys and 50 girls. Now that we have enough members after the establishment of our club we tried to get more people to support our club and introduce and expose rugby to the students of Universiti Brunei Darussalam and to the public.

Our objectives are:

Introduce and expose contact and touch rugby to everybody in Brunei.
To change the view of Bruneians about rugby.
Give chances to anyone who would like to try rugby.
Introduce new kind of sport and challanges to the students of Universiti Brunei Darussalam
By doing sport you will maintain a healthy lifestyles.
